MIDF: Foreign funds buy 49.4m ringgit

PETALING JAYA - Foreign net buying on Bursa Malaysia has been extended for the eighth week albeit with a marginal inflow, according to MIDF Research.

“Foreign tide-in to Bursa was marginal last week. The fatigue in foreign net inflow was arguably due to foreigners’ anxiety on the uncertainty surrounding US monetary policy.
“Last week, foreigners on net bought 49.4 million ringgit, down from 501.5 million ringgit the week prior.
“The estimated fund flow excludes off-market transactions,” it noted in its weekly report.
Investors classified as “foreigners” were net sellers on Tuesday (31.4 million ringgit), Wednesday (31.4 million ringgit) and Friday (5.9 million ringgit) and were net buyers on Monday (53.5 million ringgit) and Thursday (64.6 million ringgit).
Foreigners were much weaker as recent Fed officials’ comments on the timing of US rate hike have potentially kept foreign investors on hold.
“They were also digesting numbers as companies announce their earnings during the quarterly financial reporting season,” it said.
As of last Friday, the year-to-date cumulative net foreign inflow into shares listed on Bursa had breached the 2.5-billion-ringgit level at 2.54 billion ringgit, up marginally from 2.49 billion ringgit in the preceding week.
In retrospect, foreigners had offloaded 19.5 billion ringgit in 2015 and 6.9 billion ringgit in 2014.
