Myanmar power cuts deter investors: Thilawa president

In a bid to boost exports, the Myanmar government should develop basic infrastructure and reliable power supplies to attract prospective foreign investors, according to Yanai Takashi, president of Myanmar-Japan Thilawa Development Ltd.
“Investors don’t like frequent power cuts. More importantly,” said Takashi.
“The country needs to invite export-oriented foreign companies for its economic growth. The government should make efforts for infrastructural development and to secure a reliable power supply.”

Najib Razak’s delegation includes Tranport Minister Liow Tiong Lai, who disclosed the planned talks when asked to elaborate on the rail link announced by Najib in the Budget for 2017.
The first phase is the construction of the rail link from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan, followed by the second phase from Kuantan to Kuala Terengganu and the final phase from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Baru, ending in Tumpat.
The Budget also named Port Klang, Bentong, Mentakab, Kemaman, and Kerteh as towns that will be connected over the 600km rail route.
Liow hoped the project could begin next year and be completed by 2022 and that Bentong, as one of the stops, could become a satellite town to Greater Kuala Lumpur. – The Star
