GARUDA INDONESIA says it plans to launch direct flights from Bangkok to Mumbai, while a Malaysian carrier has announced daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Mai.

“We will soon open a new route from Bangkok to Mumbai. Hopefully we can reach our target this year, which is 25 million passengers for Garuda Indonesia and 11 million passengers for Citilink,” said the Indonesian flag carrier’s president director, Arif Wibowo.
Citilink is a low-cost-airline subsidiary of Garuda that serves domestic routes in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Malaysia-based Malindo Air announced that it would fly to Chiang Mai daily. This will be its second Thai destination after Bangkok, with flights from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket also in the works for a November 10 launch date.
Malindo Air Flight OD530 will depart every day from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10.35am and arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport at 12.20pm local time.
Chiang Mai is one hour behind KL.
“Travellers from Malaysia will now be able to access this new destination in less than three hours with low fares,” said Malindo Air chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy.
“This will certainly bring mutual benefit to both countries. We are confident our new frequency and attractive fares will stimulate more inbound and outbound travel between both countries,” Chandran said in a statement.
Garuda also plans to launch a new route from Bali to Chengdu, China, on January 15. The direct flight is slated to fly four times a week using an Airbus aircraft.
Arif told Antara news agency that China was a huge tourist market and Chengdu served as a potential entry point to tap into.
