Ye Naing Win Min was addressing a workshop on employer-employee issues held on Saturday.
He said rights should be given to employees and executives should not behave as dictators. The new government should take lessons from the past.
“Employer-employee issues should be more transparent. We cannot rely only on laws, some of which have not been amended for over 100 years. The workshop law has been amended ten times and the dispute settlement law changed fifteen times.
“Businessmen should invest in industries which are really needed for the country. Otherwise, their wealth is a problem for the people who cannot control employment and the market.”
Yangon Region MP Sandar Min also addressed the workshop on employer-employee issues.
“The employer-employee issue is not one we cannot solve. Labour laws of our country are not lower in standard compared to those of Asean, but we need to solve the problems practically.”
The lawmaker said every government in the country had claimed employment opportunities would be created, with two million emerging within the next six years.
However, he said, salaries needed to be fair. “The government should create a welfare programme. In our country, when we have high salaries, the commodity prices are also high. The government cannot solve that problem. Living costs must be lower.”
