The first version of the phone called ALO! M5, which runs on Android 6.0 over a quad-core CPU at 4G connectivity, was introduced last year with a 13-megapixel camera and one gigabyte storage, dual SIM, a five-inch touchscreen display and most other features that current smartphones have, including GPS.
Company Chairman and CEO Thanousone Phonamat told Vientiane Times at a press conference to introduce the ALO! M5 Plus last week that his company planned to produce the smartphone for customers in the field of education in particular, because more education applications are available.
“It’s not so easy to seek a market share amongst other world-leading smartphone brands but we look at the possibility of serving customers through direct online sales rather than through displays at shops,” he said, adding that they anticipated a 5 percent market share next year.
Thanousone said 20 distributors in Vientiane and four provinces have expressed their intention to order the new ALO M5 Plus to sell.
“We have to take a little bit more time to hear about feedback. If it comes out with a positive reaction it will be distributed around the country,” he added.
Some 5,000 of the ALO smartphones have been produced, a significant increase on the 1,000 mobiles that were made available when the first version was marketed.
