Family on hold for Wanchana

Army Lt-Colonel Wanchana “Bird” Sawatdee, star of the King Naresuan movies and the most recognisable of the heroes-in-uniform who have helped so much during the flooding, is now seeking a little help himself.
Bird and his wife Warinya, known as Palm, have been hoping for a child ever since their wedding last February. No luck so far, though.
Bird says he wants at least two kids. “I planned to have a boy first and then a little sister he could take care of, but now I don’t care which.”
He acknowledges that he might have been “misfiring” due to his cinema commitments combined with urgent flood-relief duties. “Maybe I was just under a lot of stress lately.”
So Bird has been soliciting advice. Someone suggested he pay respects to the King Naresuan monument in Prachin Buri and he’s going to give that a try too. You never know.

Another trophy for Panya Nirankul, head of Workpoint Entertainment: Its show “Wittaya Subphayuth” was the sole Thai winner at the Sian Television Awards in Singapore last week, snagging the honours for Best Game or Quiz Programme.
With more than 1,000 shows from across Asia in competition, Workpoint’s four entries all made the final round.
Panya and his staff were deafened by the audience applause when the award was announced. He went to the podium and said he hoped their success encourages more shows in the region that make science interesting for young people.
“I’d like to thank Thai Health Promotion for giving us the trust and the chance,” Panya said, no doubt also counting his blessings for the award’s confidence-boosting timeliness.
Workpoint’s studio in Pathum Thani was flooded – and they’d only been able to move back in three days before the ceremony.
