Chuvit deserves credit for taking it like a man

Re: “Chuvit gets prison for demolishing bars, shops”, News, January 29 & “Can you blame Thaksin for staying away?”, Letters, January 26.

Chuvit Kamolvisit, a former massage-parlour tycoon, has put shame on that fugitive. Khun Chuvit took the prison sentence of two years like a man. His two-year sentence is the same as the sentenced imposed on that man for a corruption charge.
Should he fear for his life while in prison as imagined by the previous [letters] writer, Somsak Pola? Not at all. His manliness should draw sympathy from his fellow inmates and his jailers. It was lame for Somsak Pola to create a red herring to justify that man’s cowardice.
Also, the judgement was extremely logical that a suspended jail sentence was uncalled for because “it was a blatant crime with an excessive use of force”. And also the reduced years of imprisonment was justified because “Chuvit had offered satisfactory compensation to his victims and turned the land into a public park”.
However, Chuvit has an ace up in his sleeve because his land, the six rai (2.4 acre) Chuvit Garden, is now worth at least Bt2.5 billion. In two years, it could reach Bt3 billion. This man is no fool. Everyday that passes, he will draw comfort from that – owning a beautiful Sukhumvit plot on the main road that is he envy of all land developers.
