Corruption, laziness play big role in BMA governance

I would give the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration no more than 2 out of 10 for efficiency and industriousness.

On one side of the city, the BMA is trying to evict people who have been living in the historic Mahakan Fort community for generations, so that the administration can lavish a huge government budget on modernising the place.
On the other side, the BMA is ignoring the plight people who live on Soi Ruamrudee by failing to order that two towering hotel buildings be reduced to eight storeys as required by law.
These two buildings, of 24 and 18 storeys, were ordered to comply with the law a full two years ago by the Supreme Administrative Court. Instead, they continue doing business as if nothing has happened. Permission for their construction was given when Apirak Kosayadhin of the Democrat Party was Bangkok governor. The current administration comes from the very same party.
