When law enforcement becomes a law unto itself

The 1950s Thai Police Chief Phao Siyanon has gone down in history as an assassin of political opponents and a murderer of people bold enough to challenge him.

But he also gave the police force a motto: “There is nothing under the sun that Thai police cannot do.”
I suggest it is an appropriate time to re-institute this motto with a slight amendment: “There is nothing under the sun that police cannot do if they can get away with it.”
Of course, if my suggestion is implemented, it should be with the tacit understanding that it does not include its ability to win the trust, respect or confidence of the Thai people.
