The case for a vegan diet

Thomas Turk writes that it’s impossible for people like me to get fat.

Then how come I was, at one time, obese when I was a meat-eater? But as I’ve said before, it’s impossible to reason with a man like Thomas Turk.
Meanwhile, Somsak Pola claims (again with no evidence) that Dr Ornish’s vegan diet would not have helped prostate cancer patients without the accompanying regimen of exercise and meditation. Can he cite one study in history in which people could reverse heart disease and stop the progression of prostate cancer by exercise and meditation alone? I don’t think so.
Other medics, notably Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, have proved that a vegan diet alone can reverse heart disease. It’s also been shown in other studies that a low-fat plant diet combined with exercise can help prostate cancer patients.
The simple point I was trying to make in my letter is that while Thomas Turk was making wild and unsubstantiated claims about “cancer cures”, I was presenting the readers with some well-documented alternative approaches (which may include exercise and meditation) that need to be explored for improving treatment for cancer patients.
