Netizens slam govt for appointing MP facing charges to House anti-graft panel
The government has come under fire from Thai netizens over the appointment on Thursday (January 16) of Palang Pracharat member of Parliament Pareena Kraikup, who faces charges of allegedly encroaching on a natural forest as a member of the House Committee Against Corruption.
Wongthanong Chainarong-singha, founder of “The Standard” posted on his Twitter account that choosing a corrupt politician to be member of the House Committee on anti-corruption is the government’s most disrespectful act towards Thai people as Pareena Kraikup has been charged with alleged land encroachment at a national forest reserve.
The Royal Thai Government Gazette’s official website posted an announcement by the House of Representatives on January 16 that Palang Pracharath Party MP from Bangkok, Sira Jenjaka, and Pareena, the party's Ratchaburi MP, have been appointed as members of the House Committee Against Corruption.
The decision was made at a meeting of the House of Representatives on November 6, 2019, after two former committee members, Thanasit Kowsurat and Payom Phrompetch, resigned.
Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and members of Palang Pracharat Party have been accused of nepotism several times.
