The Chiang Mai provincial education office said that no students would be attending classes at private schools from Tuesday (March 17) while the school websites have announced the temporary halt of some activities and cancellation of summer courses.
For example, The Prince Royal's College has announced the cancellation of its summer semester and opened an online platform, including online classroom, homework and test through Microsoft Word 365 and Google Classroom. Montfort College has postponed the first day of the new semester to May 7.
Tawatchai Chaiyakan, director of Chiang Mai Provincial Education Office, said that there are 132 private schools and 13 international schools with around 70,000 students in total.
The Ministry of Education has asked all schools to cancel summer classes and postpone school reopening to May 7, which may be postponed again if the situation gets worse.
Meanwhile, tutorial schools in Chiang Mai were asked to close temporarily to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
