Thunderstorms and hail forecast for upper Thailand

Thunderstorms are likely in upper Thailand, beginning with the Northeast, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds and hail, the Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Wednesday (April 1).

The situation is created by another high-pressure system over Vietnam and Laos which is expected to reach the Northeast and the East where the southerly and southeasterly winds prevail across. Meanwhile, a thermal low covers upper Thailand.
People have been urged to stay safe by keeping off big trees, outdoor places and unsecured buildings. Farmers should beware of damage to crops.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:
Northern region: Hot to very hot; temperature lows of 21-27 degrees and highs of 39-42 degrees Celsius.
Northeastern region: Hot to very hot with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas, gusty winds and hail are possible; temperature lows of 22-27 degrees and highs of 38-40 degrees Celsius.
Central region: Hot to very hot; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 38-41 degrees Celsius.
Eastern region: Hot with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas and gusty winds; temperature lows of 25-28 degrees, highs of 34-38 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high.
Southern region (east coast): Hot with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 22-27 degrees, highs of 33-36 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high.
Southern region (west coast): Hot with thundershowers in 10 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 35-39 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high and more than a metre offshore.
Bangkok and surrounding areas: Hot during the day with isolated rains in some areas; temperature lows of 27-28 degrees, highs of 35-39 degrees Celsius.
