BMA to accelerate vaccine drive to control outbreak as 659 test positive

Of the 8,060 people who were tested for Covid-19 during April 3-10, 659 have tested positive, 3,357 were negative and 4,044 results are awaited, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said.

The BMA has been conducting an active search operation among people involved with entertainment venues.

Chawin Sirinak, BMA deputy permanent secretary, said the authorities would vaccinate high-risk people and employees around Thong Lor’s entertainment venues to control the outbreak. He said it was one of the measures to prevent and control the spread of the epidemic, similar to giving Covid-19 vaccination to people at risk in the market and the communities surrounding the market in Bang Khae district.

The vaccination plan is in accordance with the resolution of the Bangkok Sub-Committee for the Management of Vaccination against Corona Virus Disease 2019 on April 5, after epidemiological experts informed them that one of the processes to control the spread of disease is vaccination because it reduces the chance of infection and symptoms when infected. However, this does not mean that people who take the vaccine will not get infected.

The BMA said it would vaccinate people in conjunction with other measures, such as disease investigation, isolation control, quarantine, surveillance of risk groups, proactive search for patients in endemic areas, etc.
