Nonthaburi declares flood disaster areas in two districts

Nonthaburi Governor Chestha Mosikarat has declared 10 subdistricts in Mueang Nonthaburi and Pak Kret as disaster-affected areas due to flooding after persistent heavy rain and rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River inundated homes.
The Nonthaburi Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command issued two notifications on Sunday (September 27). The declarations cover parts of Mueang Nonthaburi and Pak Kret districts where homes were flooded on September 25.
Ten subdistricts covered by declaration
In Nonthaburi City Municipality, Mueang Nonthaburi district, the declaration covers five subdistricts: Suan Yai, Bang Khen, Bang Kraso, Talat Khwan and Tha Sai.
In Pak Kret City Municipality, Pak Kret district, it covers another five subdistricts: Pak Kret, Bang Phut, Bang Talat, Khlong Kluea and Ban Mai.
Authorities attributed the flooding to persistent heavy rain combined with rising water levels in the Chao Phraya River. The flooding affected homes, posed risks to life and safety, and caused damage to private and state property.
The provincial command determined that the situation constituted a public disaster under Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act BE 2550 (2007).
Declaration enables faster disaster response
The declaration allows government agencies, local administrative organisations and relevant private-sector bodies to take action in the affected areas under their legal powers and responsibilities.
It also enables measures under national and provincial disaster prevention and mitigation plans, along with relevant laws, regulations, orders, announcements and Cabinet resolutions, to be implemented without delay.
