Nakhon Sawan warned of river overflow as upstream water rises
Authorities warn of possible river overflow in Nakhon Sawan as upstream flows rise, while Chao Phraya Dam discharge remains at 2,200 cubic metres per second.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued a warning on Wednesday (September 30) as water levels in the Ping, Nan and Chao Phraya rivers, as well as nearby canals, continued to rise, raising the risk of river overflow in parts of Nakhon Sawan.
The warning covers Ban Makluea, Ban Kaeng, Bang Muang, Bueng Senat, Bang Phra Luang, Kriang Krai, Khwae Yai, Nakhon Sawan Ok, Takhian Luean and Pak Nam Pho subdistricts in Mueang Nakhon Sawan district, as well as nearby areas.
The DDPM, working with mobile network operators AIS, True and NT, sent Cell Broadcast alerts to residents in the affected areas.
Residents were advised to move belongings to higher ground, relocate vehicles and move vulnerable people to safer locations. Those needing assistance were urged to contact their local administrative organisation, subdistrict headman or village headman.
Chao Phraya Dam maintains discharge at 2,200 cubic metres per second
The Chao Phraya Dam is currently discharging water at 2,200 cubic metres per second, while the Royal Irrigation Department continues to closely monitor conditions and adjust water management in line with the volume of upstream flows.
At noon, the C.2 monitoring station in Mueang Nakhon Sawan district recorded a flow of 2,443 cubic metres per second.
At the C.13 station at the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat province, the flow was 2,200 cubic metres per second, while the upstream water level stood at 17.72 metres above mean sea level.
The Royal Irrigation Department reported that heavy rainfall upstream of the Chao Phraya Dam and across the Chao Phraya River basin had caused inflows above the dam to continue increasing.
It added that if upstream water levels rise further and require a higher discharge through the Chao Phraya Dam, updated information will be issued periodically.
