Vajiralongkorn Dam reaches 98.61% with 1.39% capacity left

Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi is at 98.61% of capacity, with EGAT keeping releases controlled and urging riverside communities to monitor official updates.

Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi has reached 98.61% of its total storage capacity, leaving room for just 1.39% more water as continued inflows raise concerns among residents in low-lying areas.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) said it was managing water releases in coordination with the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) to minimise risks to communities along the Khwae Noi River.

On October 1, Paitoon Kengkanchang, Deputy Secretary-General of the ONWR, joined Chawalit Kankham, EGAT Assistant Governor – Renewable Power Plant, and Sakon Aksornthanawat, Director of Vajiralongkorn Dam, in inspecting water levels and the structural condition of the dam.

The inspection was aimed at assessing the dam’s structural stability and reviewing reservoir levels against its water-management plan to ensure it could respond effectively to changing conditions.

Reservoir reaches 98.61% of capacity

EGAT reported that, as of midnight on September 30, Vajiralongkorn Dam held 8,736.82 million cubic metres of water, equivalent to 98.61% of its total capacity.

That left just 123.18 million cubic metres, or 1.39%, of remaining storage capacity, while inflows continued at 99.20 million cubic metres per day.

Despite the high reservoir level, EGAT said water was being closely managed under the supervision of the ONWR and the working group responsible for analysing weather conditions and forecasting water situations.

Water discharge was being maintained at 40.44 million cubic metres per day, or about 468 cubic metres per second.

EGAT also confirmed that no water was being released through the spillway, adding that the dam and its main structures remained in normal and safe condition.

Khwae Noi levels vary by area

Following adjustments to water releases under the ONWR’s management plan, water levels along the Khwae Noi River are showing different trends across Kanchanaburi.

In Thong Pha Phum district, the river level is expected to remain close to the previous day’s level.

In Sai Yok and Mueang Kanchanaburi districts, water levels are expected to fall from the previous day, easing some concerns among riverside communities and economic areas.

EGAT’s Vajiralongkorn Dam has urged people living along the Khwae Noi River and in low-lying areas to closely follow official water updates and prepare for possible changes in conditions.

Real-time water information is also available around the clock through the EGAT One application.
