BEM posts record Q2 net profit of 1.012 billion baht, first Orange Line train set due in Thailand in late November

Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) posted a record second-quarter net profit of 1.012 billion baht, supported by continued passenger growth on the Blue Line and proactive debt management that reduced finance costs. The first Orange Line train set is due to arrive in Thailand in late November 2026, with trial operations expected to begin in late 2027 and feed more passengers into the Blue Line.

Dr Sombat Kitjalaksana, managing director of BEM, reported that the company recorded net profit of 1.012 billion baht in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 19 million baht from the same period last year.

The result marked BEM’s highest-ever second-quarter net profit and set a new record in the company’s 10-year history.

Total service revenue reached 3.982 billion baht, reflecting the balance of the company’s revenue streams and assets. More than 50% came from toll revenue generated by its urban expressway business, which handles more than one million journeys each day and provides BEM with a stable source of income.

Toll revenue totalled 2.071 billion baht during the quarter.

About 40% of total service revenue came from the rail business, which continued to expand. Blue Line fare revenue was supported by annual passenger growth resulting from developments along the route and its role as Bangkok’s circular rail line, connecting with and receiving passengers from other rail services.

Rail-business revenue reached 1.672 billion baht in the quarter, up 3% year on year.

BEM also highlighted cost management as one of its key strengths. Through proactive debt management, the company reduced finance costs by 9%, helping it maintain strong profitability.

Net profit attributable to shareholders reached 1.887 billion baht in the first six months of 2026, an increase from the same period last year and reinforcing BEM’s position as a premium defensive stock with stable cash flow.

A major future growth driver is the eastern section of the Orange Line, running from Thailand Cultural Centre station to Yaek Rom Klao station.

The first train set has completed production and testing at the factory in Turkey and is being sent to Germany for further test runs to ensure its quality and safety before it is later shipped to Thailand.

The second train set is undergoing testing in Turkey and will be the first Orange Line train to arrive in Thailand, with delivery expected in late November 2026. The remaining trains are being manufactured according to schedule.

Trial operations on the eastern section are expected to begin in late 2027, with commercial services scheduled to open in early 2028.

Construction of the western section, from Bang Khun Non station to Thailand Cultural Centre station, is 37% complete. Procurement of additional trains for the Blue Line has reached 43%, based on information available at the end of June 2026.

Once the eastern section opens, the Orange Line is expected to handle up to 100,000 passenger journeys per day. This figure is projected to rise to 300,000 journeys per day when the entire route, including the western section, becomes operational in 2030.

BEM expects the full opening of the Orange Line to drive its performance into what it describes as a “Big Jump” phase.

The company remains committed to developing transport systems and improving services to accommodate rising travel demand, while pursuing sustainable growth through social and environmental responsibility and service innovation.

BEM aims to deliver stable and sustainable returns for shareholders, passengers and stakeholders across all sectors.
