Asean denounce Myanmar attack on displaced persons

Asean has denounced the reported bombardment of a camp for displaced people in Myanmar’s Kachin State. The attack occurred about ten days ago and purportedly resulted in the deaths of 28 civilians, including at least 12 children.
Kachin Army attacks army base in Shaduzut village in response to air attacks

"They attacked the army base around 6 am and fighting ceased after 9:30 am," said a villager. "One solider was killed in action and one injured. Wives of the soldiers also fought them. The KIA also had casualties. Some mortar rounds hit our village though no one was injured. Nothing was heard in the evening."
Kachin State residents are reportedly seizing land from protected forests and selling it to Chinese entrepreneurs who want to grow tissue-culture bananas.
An acre is reportedly sold for Ks500,000 (US$367).
Security has been tightened in major cities in the Kachin State as a result of continuous bomb blasts in the Hpakant area, according to the Kachin State Police Department.
