Phuket gets a larger airport

Phuket, one of Thailand's best beach destinations, is to get a new airport terminal by 2014 with construction to begin this summer, according to the Phuket News.

The new terminal will be used for international flights and will increase the airport’s capacity from 8.2 to 12.5 million passengers a year. Up to 20 planes per hour will be able to be accommodated. The terminal for national flights, meanwhile, is set to get a facelift, with the modernisation work due for completion by 2016. – dpa
