Visit Museum Siam this weekend and have yourself a feast.
From Friday through Sunday, Museum Siam is celebrating heritage cuisine and raising its glass to national tastes and flavour with the theme “From Royal Cuisine to Street Food”.
The showcase-cum-feast will take place after night falls with four hours of munching starting at 6pm along Sanamchai Road, a short walk from the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
The three nights promise foodies and hungry visitors a rare chance to sample everything from the haute cuisine of the Siamese Court to the street food of common folks under a star-filled sky.
The heritage cuisine will showcase the traditional ingredients and long-lost recipes from the Royal Thai Palace during the reign of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, Rama V of the Chakri Dynasty.
Teachers and students from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University will demonstrate the dishes first created by Phra Vimada Ther Phra Ong Chao Saisavali Bhiromya Piya Maharaj Padivarada Krom Phra Suddhasininart, one of King Rama V's consorts, considered one of Siam’s most talented cooks.
The goodies will include salted black olive chilli paste, hot paste sauce, lemongrass and chilli relish, rice stuffed cabbage, crispy rice and braised chicken with chilli paste and milk.
More than 30 booths will be serving such everyday delights as Nai Soey Beef Noodle, Sawasdee Pad Thai, Chawang Curry and Chicken Rice Curry with Coconut by Khun Lek along with Coffee Koh Pee Nakornsithammaraj.
