Lanna on two wheels
Cycling round Chiang Mai’s old temples and landmarks is a great idea, especially with the traffic getting worse by the day. Now the municipality is offering public bikes in the old town – and offering Thais the first hour for free and foreigners the bargain rental of just Bt20. The fee then goes for Bt40 (2-3 hours), Bt60 (4-5 hours), Bt80 (6-8 hours) and Bt100 (beyond 8 hours) for both Thais and foreigners. More than 160 bikes are now available at six docking stations. Getting started is easy – simply hire a bike, ride it where you like, then return it to any docking station.
