Known as a glitzy financial district, it’s packed with heritage, art and great food in a heady blend of East and West.
Giving travellers guidance to all the attractions in the district, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has introduced five theme-based walking routes among the colonial monuments, sacred Chinese temples, art galleries, street art, antique stores, hip boutiques and trendy restaurants.
The Central and Sheung Wan areas are where the history of modern Hong Kong began. Possession Point is where the British flag was first raised. The Visitors can stroll among the old streets and catch glimpses of vintage buildings or shop for souvenirs at the 60-year-old store Chu Wing Kee.
On Hollywood Road, art lovers will find galleries showing ancient artefacts and contemporary Asian pieces, bracketed by clever graffiti art on the walls of the many side alleys.
Central is a paradise for gastronomes with its wide range of Cantonese dim sum, international dishes, fusion cuisine, local dai pai dongs and other street food.
Upper Lascar Row welcomes travellers with a fascinating mix of antiques. Tai Ping Shan Street and PoHo district are lined with design studios and teahouses. And Bridges Street is a market of secondhand books and knickknacks.
