The two disgraced Nakhon Si Thammarat politicians, who were thrown behind bars for buying votes, were granted parole on Monday morning after serving two-thirds of their sentence.

Thepthai Senpong, a former Democrat MP for Nakhon Si Thammarat, and his younger brother Manote Senpong, were escorted to the Nakhon Si Thammarat Probation Office on Monday morning. There they were given electronic monitoring bracelets before being allowed to return home.

The brothers, dressed in a white T-shirt, black shorts and sports shoes, jogged 10 kilometres home in the hot afternoon sun after their release.

On July 6, 2022, the Supreme Court found the duo guilty of buying votes and sentenced them to two years in prison. The top court also upheld a lower court’s ruling and banned them from politics for 10 years. Disgraced Nakhon Si Thammarat politicians out of prison, placed in house detention

Both the Supreme and Appeals courts upheld the two-year jail sentence.

The two big-name politicians were accused of vote-buying after they threw a party for voters ahead of the election for the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO)’s chief in 2014.

The duo have served 16 months in prison, which made them eligible to be detained at home with an EM bracelet for eight more months. Disgraced Nakhon Si Thammarat politicians out of prison, placed in house detention Disgraced Nakhon Si Thammarat politicians out of prison, placed in house detention
