Constitutional Court to continue deliberations on Move Forward cases next week

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2023

The Constitutional Court will continue its deliberations on two cases brought against the Move Forward Party and its former leader Pita Limjareonrat next week.

The Office of the Constitutional Court issued a statement earlier today noting that the court did not issue rulings in the two cases on Wednesday as earlier expected, but had scheduled next Wednesday (November 22) for further deliberation.

In one of the cases, Pita, when he was the Move Forward leader, is accused of violating Article 49 of the Constitution by seeking to overthrow the monarchy through his election campaign to amend the lese majesty law or Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

In the second case, Pita is accused of violating the charter that prohibits a shareholder of a media firm to contest an election. The Election Commission alleged that Pita applied as an election candidate while he was holding shares in iTV Plc.

Constitutional Court to continue deliberations on Move Forward cases next week The EC asked the court to dissolve the Move Forward Party if Pita were to be convicted.

The Office of the Constitutional Court said in the statement that the court would continue to deliberate the two cases through debate among the judges on November 22. The Move Forward Party submitted a written defence on October 2 and a list of additional witnesses on October 18.
