World Entertainment expects big boost in revenue from Airport Vision channel

World Entertainment Network, a local television producer, has high hopes that its new APV channel will drive its revenue up by Bt750 million in the next five years.

APV (Airport Vision) is in a trial run this month, broadcasting via 310 multimedia screens in Suvarnabhumi Airport. It will be fully launched next year.
A five-year concession to manage the multimedia screens was recently awarded to World Entertainment Network by Airports of Thailand (AOT).
Managing director Ummarit Klomchitcharoen said the company spent about Bt300 million on production costs, expecting to generate advertising income of at least Bt150 million a year, or Bt750 million throughout five-year contract.
During the first half of next year, APV will air various TV programmes in Thai and English in both the domestic and international passenger lounges at Suvarnabhumi. It is expected to reach at least 50 million viewers.
Film actor Toon Hiranyasab, who was appointed to the post of APV director, said the programmes would provide a wide range of content such as documentaries to honour His Majesty the King and promote government policies, news, public relations activities of the airport, and flight information.
The second phase will begin in the second half of next year. The company will broadcast these programmes via cable and satellite TV as well as at other international airports throughout the country.
Ummarit said that to cover all expenses and AOT’s concession fee, the company expected to have at least 10 major sponsors each with an advertising package worth Bt15 million.
Currently World Entertainment Network operates six satellite TV channels: Star Channel, Bangkok Channel, ABAC Channel, Yim TV, Mahadthai Channel and Newsline.
“With APV channel, the company projects Bt700 million revenue this year, up from Bt500 million last year,” Ummarit said.
Additionally, the company plans to invest Bt100 million on its new entertainment and information channel.
