Sittichod Wantawin, director of the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Policy Bureau of the Energy Policy and Planning Office, said yesterday that the project aimed to produce 637.3 million cubic metres of biogas worth Bt4.95 billion from production waste per year.
As of last year, 100 factories had joined the programme, generating 534 million cubic metres of biogas per year.
That can substitute for 500.4 million units of electricity, 74.9 million litres of bunker oil, 35,653 tonnes of coal or 496.8 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas per year.
There were a few accidents related to biogas production in some of the participating plants, so the department held a seminar to promote factory-safety measures in Bangkok yesterday.
The seminar will move to Surat Thani next Tuesday and Nakhon Ratchasima on October 18.
