Major Cineplex chairman Vicha Poolvaraluck said the group had welcomed Bangkok Airways as a new partner to launch three high-class cinemas at Paragon Cineplex called "Bangkok Airways Blue Ribbon Screens".
The new cinemas, which will accommodate 72, 38 and 32 seats, were renovated and redesigned from the Nokia Ultra Screen unit with a Bt5-million investment. The seven-year contract with Nokia expired this year. The new contract with Bangkok Airways is for three years.
Bangkok Airways aims to broaden its brand awareness via these cinemas, which will also be used for marketing activities such as free-air-ticket promotions. A current promotion is running until the end of the year.
Vicha said 2012 would be another strong year thanks to a strong schedule of Hollywood blockbusters and Thai movies, the latter including "King Naresuan 5". Major Cineplex Group expects to enjoy revenue growth of 10-15 per cent from Bt7 billion last year.
The group will continue to invest in new cinemas in the coming year. By the end of this month, the company will open 10 new screens at EGV Bangkae.
As for new expansion in India, Vicha said the group was set to invest Bt100 million in 50 new screens this year and 130 bowling lanes by the end of next year.
