After only a year and a half with GMM Grammy's satellite TV business, Thana Thienachariya says he plans to resign as chief executive officer of GMM Z early in the new year to pave the way for young blood to run the operation.

"It’s about the time to step down as younger executives Fahmai and Rafah Dumrongchaitham, sons of chairman Paiboon Dumrongchaitham, are ready to make this business sustainable," Thana said.

He stressed that his target for this year was achievable, including the success of GMM Z brand building and a million sales of satellite-TV set-top boxes as projected.

He also cited success in building a strong team at GMM Z that was tested by several challenges, noting that the Euro 2012 fiasco was an example.

The CEO said he had spoken several times about his wish to resign with Paiboon, whom he described as his big brother. He was initially invited to join the company as an adviser to the chairman in mid-2011 when GMM Grammy decided to jump into the cable/satellite TV business.

He said he intended to send his resignation letter to Paiboon in February or March.

If he gets the green light to leave GMM Z, he could continue supporting the company as an adviser for Paiboon or set up his own business in support of the GMM broadcasting service.

He said he had not decided yet to join another firm, but a source in the broadcasting industry reported that he had been offered key posts with leading telecommunication firms such as InTouch as well as international banking services such as Citibank.

"I will make my final decision after talking with Paiboon next year," he stressed.

Before joining GMM Grammy, Thana was CEO of PK Garment (Import-Export), the manufacturer and distributor of Mc Jeans.

He was also well known for his expertise while working as a marketing executive for Total Access Communication (DTAC).
