Deputy managing director Neil Thompson said yesterday that music, sports and entertainment events remained key for his company but it would put more focus on self-produced music events such as “Singha Corporation Presents Sonic Bang: The Ultimate International Music Festival Experience”.
This year is the first edition, which will bring a number of well-known international artists – Jason Mraz, Pet Shop Boys, Pitbull, Placebo, Ash, Owl City, Sheppard, JAM Project, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Rain – and famous Thai bands such as Slot Machine, Flure, Lipta and Room 39. The festival will be staged on August 24 at Impact Arena, Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The company aims to sell at least 15,000 tickets for the event. Of those attending, 10-15 per cent are expected to be from Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan.
Thompson stressed that he hoped to create and develop this show as an annual mega music event for Southeast Asia as successful as “Summer Sonic” in Japan and “Super Sonic” in Seoul.
Justin Bieber concert
Throughout this year, the company has prepared 18 events. In the remaining months, these will include a Justin Bieber concert, the Thailand Open tennis tournament and “Barbie Live”.
By end of this year, this series of events and concerts will generate about Bt3 billion in revenue, according to a previous interview with Pongpunt Wongnongteoi, strategic planning director.
Apart self-produced shows, BEC-Tero will focus on new imported musical productions and artefact exhibitions.
“In next year’s line-up, we are preparing three new imported musical shows,” Thompson said, but declined to disclose the names.
He suggested that musical shows had become commonplace for locals. A good example is that all tickets were sold out in six weeks for “The Phantom of the Opera”.
After “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” received a good response as it marked the 100th anniversary last year of the sinking of the great ship, the company will bring another grand and prestigious exhibition into the Kingdom next year.
