PTT prepares for gas disruption
PTT is working with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to prepare for the maintenance shutdown of the Yetagun gas field in Myanmar late this year.
The gas field will be shut down during December 25-January 8.
Much of the gas from Myanmar is for power plants in the west of Thailand.
Chakree Buranakanon, senior executive vice president of PTT, said that it is under considering to pull in more supplies from Ubon gas field in the Gulf of Thailand.
PTT will this year double the import of liquefied natural gas to 2 million tonnes. In 2015, Qatar is notified of the demand for 2 million tonnes of LNG, but the exact volume could be determined later, Chakree said.
Its gas terminal can accommodate upto 5 million tonnes.
Yadana and Yetagun gas fields in Myanmar supply the combined volume of 1.1 billion cubic feet of gas to Thailand per annum. PTT is to pull more supplies from Zawtika (M9) gas field, another project co-invested by PTT Exploration and Production, just in case that both Yadana and Yetagun are to be shut down at the same time.
The Zawtika project will start producing gas in April 2014, with daily capacity of 300 million cubic feet. Of total, 60 million cubic feet will be for domestic use.
