Retail LPG price to drop B1/kilo

THE ENERGY Policy Committee yesterday resolved to cut the retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) this month by Bt1 per kilogram.

The cut, which will take effect today, was made possible by the committee’s decision yesterday to reduce the LPG contribution to the Oil Fund by 15 satang per kilogram to 92 satang, from Bt1.07 per kilo, effective today.
The monthly average cost of sourcing LPG has dropped by 79 satang per kilo. The committee’s resolution will see the retail price of LPG drop by Bt1 per kilo to Bt22.96.
Energy Minister Narongchai Akrasanee, who chaired the committee meeting yesterday, said it depended on the retailers to cut the price, given that LPG is not on the list of controlled goods. However, he believes that the LPG retail price will drop this month. The ministry will also ask PTT to reduce its LPG price in line with the committee’s resolution.
The balance of the Oil Fund as of August 2 was Bt42.219 billion, of which Bt7.816 billion was in the LPG account and the rest in other fuels’ account.
