Surangkana Wayuparb, executive director of the ETDA, said yesterday that the sale, which will run from September 1-9, aimed to be an online marketplace via www.thailandmegasale.com.
It will encourage customers to shop via online markets and drive e-commerce.
It will lead small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt business models for an online marketplace to meet their customers in both domestic and international markets.
The campaign will also give customers confidence to shop via online transactions.
The organisers expect about a million shoppers perusing more than 10,000 product items from more than 500 online shops, such as Central Online, iTrueMart, Lazada and HomePro.
The shops will be offering discounts of 30-90 per cent.
Somkiat Chaisuparakul, vice president of the Thai E-commerce Association, said online shops that want to participate in the media sale could register at www.thailandmegasale.com from today until August 15.
The ETDA expects the e-commerce market to grow by about |5 per cent to around Bt2.3 trillion this year from Bt2.11 trillion last year.
The business-to-consumer (B2C) market will surge by 30 per cent this year, it says.
The market is divided into business to government (50 per cent), B2C (30 per cent) and business to business (20 per cent).
The conversion rate for online shoppers in Thailand is 29 per cent with average purchases of Bt3,800 per time.
