Nestle (Thai) backs food science quiz for students

Nestle (Thai) is collaborating with the Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand (FoSTAT) to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl, a nationwide annual quiz on food science and technology. 
More than 200 students from public and private universities take part in the event each year. More than 3,400 food scientists have participated in this event over the past 15 years while they were students.
 Nestle (Thai) has sponsored the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl for 15 years to highlight Nestle’s goal of of “enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future by enabling food science students to become experts in food science and technology”. The company said this includes “providing significant support by offering detailed knowledge about nutrition benefiting society and further developing and advancing Thailand’s food science and technology industries to a global level”.
 Over 70 student teams participated in this year’s event. Each four-member team competes in the challenging quiz to answer questions in four categories: food chemistry; food safety and microbiology; food processing and engineering; and general knowledge. The contest is divided into two rounds for all contestants, with 20 teams qualifying for the final round. The winning team of the FoSTAT-Nestle Quiz Bowl 2017, from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, received a trophy from His Excellency Ampol Senanarong, a former Privy Councillor, and will participate in an educational trip to the Nestle Research & Development Centre in Singapore.
At the centre, “they will be inspired by experiencing the importance of scientific research and development in a real-life food and beverage business environment”. The first runner-up was a team from Kasetsart University, the second runner-up was a team from Prince of Songkla University and the third runner-up was a team from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.

Hello Kitty leads the way with treasure hunt

Hello Kitty and other popular characters from Sanrio will appear in Thailand for a “Missing Treasure” event.
The event, from August 19 to 27 at Central World, is billed as an innovative puzzle-solving experience suitable for all ages.
The event organiser, Tokyo Gets is adapting a popular Japanese detective game for the competition.
Participants can join in with Hello Kitty and her friends, My Melody, Kerokerokeroppi, Cinnamoroll, and Bad Badtz-Maru, to solve puzzles amid other activities.
The chief executive of Tokyo Gets, Kohey Hara, expects the event to be a hit. “The Sanrio Characters and the Missing Treasure is an event which combines the popularity of treasure hunt in Japan and well-known Sanrio Characters,” Hara said.
“We aim to create a fun-filled event for fans and family members to join together to build bonding. The event is like a detective game to decipher the mystery. And this is the very first time that Thai people will have a chance to enjoy it.”
 Apart from the treasure hunt, there will be sale of limited edition merchandise and photo spots for the fans around Central World.
Tickets cost Bt250 and participants will receive an “adventure kit” that participants can select from an “adventurer’s hat in cute character face”, a treasure map, and |surprise gift. 

DKSH to drive sales of scar-care product

DKSH, which describes itself as a market expansion services provider with a focus on Asia, says it will boost the growth of Hiruscar in Thailand with the launch of Hiruscar Silicone Pro. DKSH Business Unit Healthcare, a partner for healthcare companies seeking to grow their businesses in Asia, has introduced the Hiruscar Silicone Pro medical scar care gel. DKSH provides marketing, sales, distribution and logistics services for the product in hospitals, clinics and pharmacies across Thailand. The product is designed to address the scar care needs of patients who have undergone surgery and offers doctors and healthcare professionals an alternative scar care remedy to meet their patients’ requirements. The product can also be used immediately after surgery as a scar-prevention measure.
The product creates a protective layer over the scar to prevent trans-epidermal water loss and promotes tissue regeneration that can ensure long-lasting moisturising treatment. Future Energy Asia shaping up as sector’s top forum

Future Energy Asia will be held in December next year to support the Ministry of Energy’s efforts for the forum to be the largest energy industry gathering in Asia.
Focusing on oil, gas and renewables, the event will provide updates on trends such as the mixed fuels and technologies needed to meet growing energy demand, improve efficiency and support the transition to a lower-carbon economy. 
The event will be held from December 12-14, 2018, at BITEC in Bangkok, with 15,000 visitors and 2,500 delegates expected. Some 300 speakers and more |than 600 exhibiting companies will be present. 
Thammayot Srichuai, deputy permanent secretary of the Ministry of Energy, announced the launch schedule for the event at a gathering of dignitaries, officials and energy sector executives with international organiser DMG Events, and event co-organiser Exposis.
“Thailand 4.0 means opportunity and the transformation in the energy sector of the country as well,” Thammayot said. “As we move more closely towards an improved energy system, energy production and consumption must adapt radically to ensure the demands of growing populations are met, while ensuring cleaner and more efficient delivery is achieved. 
“While renewable and other carbon-free energy will play a primary role, the importance of fossil fuels, in particular natural gas, in delivering the cost-effective and immediate requirements of Asia’s growing demand cannot be ignored. Fossil fuel and renewable energy can certainly form the core elements of a transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future for |Asia.”
He said that the staging of the Future Energy Asia exhibition and conference in Thailand reflects Thailand’s efforts “to promote new projects, attract investments in the energy sector, and consolidate communication with foreign investors and large international corporations”, which are foremost on the investment opportunities map. “The event will act as a collaborative effort to publicise Thailand’s new policies and readiness as an investment hub and showcase Thailand’s potential to become a sustainable energy hub for Asia, as it transitions to Thailand 4.0,” Thammayot said.

Somprasong approved as Dusit director amid growth

Hospitality company Dusit International has approved the appointment of Somprasong Boonyachai as a company director, from July 1.
 Somprasong appointment follows a series of additions to Dusit International’s board of directors, in moves that the Thailand-based group says signal the company’s commitment to sustainable and profitable growth. 
The company said that Somprasong, with more than 40 years’ experience in telecoms and related technology, joins the board during a period of unprecedented growth at Dusit International, “which will see its current tally of 29 hotels top 70 within the next three-to-four years across key markets worldwide”
The company said it planned to diversify its lines of business to receive about 10 per cent of total revenue from new investments in hospitality-related industries. 
Dusit International believes Somprasong’s management experience and technological expertise “will provide invaluable support for the company’s strategic direction, especially in terms of implementing and exploring new technologies that enhance profitability and improve the guest experience”.
