Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday gave alms to nine Buddhist monks to mark her 45th birthday.

Yingluck, her husband Anusorn Amornchat and her son Supasek Amornchat together gave alms to nine monks at their residence in Soi Yothinpattana 3, Ramintra Navamin to mark her birthday.

Her son Supasek gave his mother a paper folding piano as a present with his handwritten words wishing her every happiness and to live young for 2,000 years. He also wished his mother luck to work smoothly as head of the government.

Yingluck did not say she wanted anything special but said she was proud that her 10-year-old son gave her this present.

This was the first time that media coverage was allowed inside her home since she officially assumed the post of prime minister. Some 100 riot police were deployed to ensure safety and security in and around her home.

The premier also hosted a luncheon for reporters, officials, staff and vendors at Government House. The menu consisted of Tom Yum noodles with pork from the premier’s favourite shop in Bang Kruay, Som Tam, fried-chicken, nam prik ong, nam prik num (both are northern style chilli-paste) including dessert like coconut ice-

cream and Tao-teung (Chinese iced dessert). However, she did not join the lunch with the reporters.

In the evening, Yingluck opened Baan Pitsanulok, the official residence of the prime minister, for politicians and businessmen to greet her on her birthday.
