US President Barack Obama arrives in Myanmar for historic visit

Obama, the first sitting US president to visit Myanmar, was greeted at the Yangon International Airport by Vice President Nyan Htun. Students waved Myanmar and US flags and a group of teens held up a placard reading, "Warm Welcome Obama, Please Help Our Business."
Thousands of riot police were stationed along University Avenue from the airport to Yangon's old Parliament building, where Obama was scheduled to meet with President Thein Sein, the reform-minded leader for whom the visit is an "acknowledgment" of the dramatic progress towards democracy in the past 18 months.
Obama has been criticized by human rights activists for visiting Myanmar when they say government troops continue to commit abuses of ethnic minority groups such as the Rohingya Muslims in the western Rakhine state and Kachins in the northern part of the country.//DPA
