Read in childhood, reap as an adult
For many people, books were inspiring, fun and unforgettable
You are what you read. Many people also agreed that the books that they read when they were young helped craft their life today.
Pornthip Kongchun, head of marketing, Google Thailand, really loves Doraemon. She has loved innovation since she was young and Doraemon brought to her fantastic imagination with innovative equipment. This book became the inspiration for her to work with Google, the innovation company.
“I love Doraemon. I think Google is represented as the magical things in his magic pocket to improve people’s life and living,” said Pornthip.
She added that many of the magic tools that Doraemon had in his own pocket are now available in the real world
She said the book is an important inspiration for people. Reading a lot of books will craft the way people live and develop their point of view and thought.
Vowpailin Chovichien, a diplomatic officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that parents have a lot of influence on children’s reading habits.
“Whether children will love to read or not depends on the kind of books they read, and how often they read. All these depend on the parents’ lead, including encouragement and support,” said Vowpailin.
“My parents always supported me and led me to love reading. They gave me a children’s encyclopaedia when I was young. When I grew up, my dad let me summarise the stories I read and tell him. I often did that when I was a child. I told my dad I would like to write a story by myself, which I have done,” said Vowpailin.
The library is also very important and can influence children’s reading habits, especially primary school children. The library of a primary school should have books for children that are full of pictures to draw their attention. Once, the children are addicted to the stories, they will remain interested in reading even if the book is full of text and without pictures.
“Reading is very beneficial for children. Reading helps develop their imagination and lets them learn a lot more new things. They will have more knowledge from reading,” said Vowpailin.
She said a reader in younger days would develop into a writer with the ability to develop a good story and a good book for people in the future.
Jakrapong Kongmalai, editor of Thumpsup.in.th, said he loved Robert Fulfhum’s “Thammada Ti Mai Thammada” because it is very positive, entertaining and profound.
“Reading in childhood is very important. It is critical to learn from good books, which shape your future. Spend time wisely with good books,” said Jakrapong.
Kanda Runapongsa Saikaew, the associate director of Khonkaen University’s Computer Centre, said she loved the biography of social critic Prawase Wasi.
This book inspired her to become a professor in the rural areas of Thailand and to devote her knowledge and skill as well as time and life for doing good to society. “This book inspired me a lot. I was a student in a rural province. I got a scholarship to study abroad and then I came here to the rural part of the country to serve the people,” said Kanda.
