Slain imam's kids receive royal kindness
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and HRH Princess Srirasmi graciously took the two children of Yakob Raimanee, an imam of the Central Masjid, who was killed in a shooting on August 5, under their sponsorship to support their education.
Burahan Raimanee, 16, a Mathayom 4 student, and Budsarin Raimanee, 10, who is attending Prathom 4, will receive royal scholarships until they graduate from college or start a career and can raise a family in the future, Governor Pramuk Lamun said yesterday.
Citing a letter from HRH the Crown Prince’s Secretary’s Office, he said the Princess on Tuesday visited Pattani Hospital to follow up on her project to promote the health of mothers and children.
She also granted an audience to widow Waeroh-feeah, her mother and her two children. The Princess offered her condolences for the loss of the head of the family, instructed the two children to be good and study to take care of their mum in the future, and urged agencies to aid this family the best they could.
The violence in the restive South continued, with a villager shot dead in Narathiwat’s Rangae district. Police found the body of Sameulae Jehkor, 29, in a durian plantation in tambon Tanyonglimo at about 7am with a wound in the back of his neck. Police suspect an insurgent attack or a personal conflict as the motive.
In Yala, authorities interrogated Abdulkoder Sulong, 27, who had been arrested in Bannang Sata district, as it was suspected that he might be stealing motorbikes for insurgent sympathisers to use as motorcycle bombs.
