Finnish punters win record 57.3-million-euro jackpot
Helsinki - Finland has 10 newly minted multi-millionaires after a group of punters won a record pot of 57.3 million euros (78.5 million dollars) in a pan-European lottery, reports said Saturday.
The lucky EuroJackpot winners were part of a 10-strong pool, and if the pot is evenly split, each member would get 5.7 million euros, state-owned gaming company Veikkaus said.
The winning ticket was bought at a kiosk in Toijala, about 140 kilometres north-west of the capital Helsinki.
An employee at the kiosk told tabloid Ilta Sanomat that the win would likely generate a lot of interest among its customers.
The win was reportedly the largest since the EuroJackpot was launched in 2012. The previous record of 46.1 million euros was won a year ago by a gambler in Germany.
The EuroJackpot is available in 14 countries: Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Ahead of Friday's draw, Finnish gamblers spent 7.1 million euros.
