The Nation news people's pledge

Through the 40 years of our media career, Nation news people have stood united against economic storms as well as political threats. We have proved to the public our spirit of being a free media that strictly adheres to the professional code of ethics. Th

The editorial staff of our media outlets have the obligation of retaining the spirit of free media and adhering to the media code of ethics.

The Nation media people display our unity once again. It is not because we want to protect the status of the company’s management, but we simply want to confirm the spirit that we have firmly believed in throughout the four decades of our existence as an independent media.

With money totalling billions of baht, you can certainly afford to buy a company registered in the stock market. However, we believe it is not that easy to use the same amount of money to buy faith and trust that the public has in a media business.

We would like to stress that a good media company must also have good shareholders. Any group of investors with questionable business backgrounds and suspected hidden agenda of using the media for their benefit, can be viewed as nothing other than a threat to the spirit of free media that is trusted by the public. This in turn is also a threat to the people’s freedom to information and a peril to society as a whole.

Four decades in the media career should be sufficient to prove our sincerity in serving public interest. The Nation news people adhere to the code of ethics and rules of conduct. We perform our duty honestly, fairly and professionally. Thai society should have decided by now as to whether we deserve protection for the public benefit.

With the spirit of free media, all The Nation news people affirm that Thai society will not be disappointed for keeping this "watchdog" to watch for any irregularity in this country in an honest and dignified way. This watchdog will not be swayed by the influence of money games or any political groups.

With respect,

"Nation News People"
