THE POLITICALLY ORIENTED Peace TV channel has delayed broadcasting news shows on the Internet to next Monday, news anchor and red-shirt leader Weng Tojirakarn said, adding that the channel will branch out into broadcasting other programmes later.

Broadcasts will initially start on YouTube, he said.
“We will try to start with news shows and see the reaction [of the authorities] who will be monitoring the programmes. After that, we will adjust the structure of our programmes and try to expand the scope” from broadcasting normal news to other forms of programme, Weng said.
He added that Peace TV would continue working with four news anchors, and if there are no problems, the channel will bring back other red-shirt leaders.
On April 27, the NBTC cancelled Peace TV’s broadcasting licence for allegedly airing content that breached an agreement with the regulator and orders issued by the military’s ruling National Council for Peace and Order.
Weng added that the TV station will also post weekly journals via other platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Today four news anchors from Peace TV will go to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to seek a response on the petition they filed with the NBTC last week.
The petition calls for an explanation from the broadcasting regulator on issues deemed as affecting security as decided by the NBTC.
Last Sunday, Weng and the news anchors also submitted an open letter to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Escap), in which they called on UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to ensure that the government respects an international treaty on rights and media freedom.
