Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan will send officers to speak to a Bangkok-based monk over his alleged Facebook posts that called for people to take revenge for the deaths of Buddhist monks in the deep South.

Prawit, also the defence minister, said the officers would speak to Phra Maha Apichat Punnajantho of Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram to “clarify for a better understanding”.
The monk’s Facebook message said that Buddhists had run out of their loving kindness after many monks were killed violently in the Muslim-majority southern border area. He called for a mosque to be burnt down for every Buddhist monk killed in the deep South.
Prawit said the monk’s posts were not acceptable given the sensitivity required when dealing with the unrest in the deep South.
The monk suspended his Facebook at noon.
He claimed the Sangha Council of Thailand, the government and national security agencies had asked him to stop his campaign.
However, he added: “On the day Buddhist people call me, I will be back.”
