NLA endorses new NACC members

The National Legislative Assembly yesterday voted to endorse five National Anti-Corruption Commission members.

Chaired by its deputy president Surachai Liengboonlertchai, the NLA stamped in a secret vote the endorsement of the nominees chosen by a selection committee headed by Constitutional Court president Nurak Mapraneet.
Former State Audit Commission member Witthaya Akompitak was voted in 164 to 11 with 12 abstentions. 
Justice Ministry permanent secretary Suwana Suwanjutha was voted in 163 to 12 with 12 abstentions.
For former deputy police chief General Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, an ex-NLA member, it was 154 votes to 24 with nine abstentions.
And for former chief judge Surasak kirivichien it was 173 votes to two with 12 abstentions.
General Bunyawat Kruahong, a former director of the budget office of the Defence Ministry, received 165 votes to 11 with 11 abstentions.
An endorsed NACC members must receive more than half the total votes.
A committee charged with checking the nominee’s records, behaviour and ethical conduct reported its findings before the secret vote was held. General Ood Buangbon led the committee.
The NLA will seek Royal endorsement of the five.
