In its press statement sent by email at 1:28 am, the SCB said the accident at 9:30 pm Sunday happened because a worker somehow activated a pyrogen aerosol. The activated pyrogen gas depleted oxygen in the area as it was designed to extinguish fire that way, the statement explained.
The SCB also expressed condolences to families of the eight killed workers and seven other people who were injured.
The bank said police is still investigating the cause of the accident and the bank will provide appropriate assistance to the families of the victims.
Earlier the Erawan Emergency Medical Centre announced that an extinguisher exploded, killing five people at the scene after they inhaled toxic gas. Three others died at hospitals.
