Coffin shop sees doubling sale during Songkran

Sor Koontawee, a coffin shop in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, experienced a double sale increase during the Songkran holiday period.

Thanyaporn Saelao, the owner, said that her shop sold about 4 coffins on daily average during the period against normal sales of 1-2 per day. 
Official figures showed that during April 11-16, 89 road accidents were recorded in the province, killing 18 people and injuring 100.
According to the Road Safety Directing Centre, Nakhon Ratchasima was the province with the highest death toll, at 18, during the six-day period. Only 5 out of 77 provinces reported no fatality - Trat, Phrae, Yala, Ranong and Nongbua Lamphoo.
During the period, 3,104 accidents were reported nationwide, boosting the number of casualties to 397 and the injured to 3,271. On April 16 alone, 59 people lost their lives. 
Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that 49.54 per cent of the casualties and the injured were in the working age.
