All six Thai tourists trapped inside collapsed resort building in Koh Chang have been rescued with no serious injury, while the two-year-old child was also safe.

A two-floor building in Siam Beach Hotel near the Siam Beach in Kaibae village of Tambon Koh Chang in Trat’s Koh Chang district crumpled after heavy rain in the early Saturday morning, caused one Thai female tourist died at the scene and trapped six other Thai tourists within the rubble.
Koh Chang district chief Kamthon Wehon disclosed that all tourists, who were trapped, have been successfully rescued just before noon and were rushed to Koh Chang Hospital.
Kamthon said most of them had the wounds from the collapsed building, but no one injured seriously and currently two of them have been sent to the larger Trat Hospital. He also informed that all of them were Thai nationalities from Bangkok.
“There were eight tourists stayed at the building, but during the time of incident, two Chinese tourists were in the building. We still don’t know the cause of the collapse yet, but I have ordered the Provincial Department of Public Work and police to investigate to this issue,” he said.
He stated that the authorities suspected that the building destroyed because the heavy rain caused the land to slide and made the building structure failed, but they also suspected that the building may be improperly built.
For the compensation, the district chief revealed that the authorities and the hotel will compensate all the victims of this incident, but the amount was not yet considered. While he also stated that it may be the lawsuit against the hotel, if the authorities find out that the collapse was caused by the hotel negligence.
