The armed group, which has fought for self-rule in Myanmar for decades, will fly its flag at half-mast for 15 days beginning Friday, a day after the King passed away, and also hold a nine-minute silence, according to an official of the RCSS.
The RCSS and Shan State Army (SSA) led by Yawd Surk said in the condolence message that the Tai ethnic, who share the same ancestry and history of Siam – the former name of Thailand – are “looking forward to the coronation of the 10th King of Thailand and cooperation with the new King through our sincere condolences to the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Thailand and the people of Thailand”.
