Los Angeles - Meryl Streep will receive the Golden Globes' 2017 Cecil B DeMille lifetime achievement award, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which awards the prizes, announced Thursday.

"Simply put, she is a trailblazer, having paved the way for women in television, film and stage. For shattering gender and age barriers, all with finesse and grace, the HFPA is humbled to bestow this honour upon her," said HFPA President Lorenzo Soria.

With 29 Golden Globes nominations and 19 Oscar nods, Streep is the most-nominated actor in Hollywood history.

Her trophy case is already teeming, with eight Golden Globes and three Oscars for films including "Kramer vs Kramer," "Sophie's Choice" and "The Iron Lady." Her latest film is "Florence Foster Jenkins."

The lifetime achievement prize went to Denzel Washington in 2016. Other past winners include Jodie Foster, George Clooney, Woody Allen, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro.

The Golden Globes are Hollywood's most important film prize after the Oscars. Nominations for the 74th Golden Globes will be announced December 12, and the awards ceremony will be held on January 8.
