Three policemen suspended over alleged role in Yingluck’s escape

Three Metropolitan Police officers suspected of allegedly helping former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra flee were transferred to police headquarters with immediate effect, pending an investigation into their alleged role, according to an order issued on Friday.

The order was signed by Pol MajGeneral Mongkon Warunno, a Metropolitan Police commander.
Pol Colonel Chairit Anurit, a deputy police commander, was transferred because he was suspected of driving the Toyota Camry sedan that may have been used in helping Yingluck escape.
An examination the licence plate number – Chor Kor 5323 – of the vehicle in question found that it was registered with the Land Transport Department.
The car is now in police custody.
Pol MajGeneral Ittipon Ittisarnronachai, a police commander in Nakhon Pathom province, also issued an order transferring two Nakhon Pathom police officers to the provincial headquarters.
They were Pol LtColonel Samit Chaiincom and Pol Senior SgtMajor Pornpipat Makboonngam.
The three were detained and grilled by deputy police Commissioner Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul from 10.30pm on Thursday until 1am on Friday.
Yingluck apparently pulled off a dramatic escape a day or two before the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders was to deliver its verdict on her on August 25.
She was tried for malfeasance over her government’s management of the rice-pledging scheme that caused losses to the country.
The reading of the verdict was postponed to September 27, when it will be presented in her absence if necessary.
