Twelve Bangkok pubs may be closed for up to five years, depending on decisions now before the national police chief's or an authorised deputy chief’s consideration, said deputy city police commissioner Maj-General Panurat Lakboon on Thursday.

A January 30 meeting would consider what to do about venues charged with illegally operating at night, said Panurat in his capacity as head of a police committee to screen business establishments facing possible shuttering as per the National Council for Peace and Order directives orders 22/2558 and 46/2559.
The list of pubs has been sent for city police chief Lt-General Chanthep Sesawech’s consideration before then being forwarded to the Royal Thai Police. Panurat said fact-finding panels were already assigned this week and given 15 days to investigate police officers in nine precincts for possible flaws or negligence in allowing the 12 law-breaking venues to operate.
Police recently checking on nearly 400 night entertainment venues in Bangkok to ensure they had proper licences and were abiding by the laws. The 12 venues were discovered as part of that process.
The 12 venues to face possible closing are: Vampire Karaoke 105 (Pathumwan precinct jurisdiction); Seheha (Wang Thong Lang precinct); Jeab Karaoke and Bangkok Yai Bar (both under Bangkok Noi precinct); Monti Carlo (Chokchai precinct); De-Cree48 and More (both under Bang Yi Rua precinct); Club Friday (Lak Song precinct); The Fix Bar (Prawet precinct); Nong Neung Karaoke and Moodies Bar (both under Rat Burana precinct) and Sura Bar Party By Mao Santi (Pasi Charoen precinct).
